Asian Art Museum

Member Magazine

The Asian Art Museum’s magazine, part of the Membership benefits package, lies somewhere in between a scholarly journal and an audience engagement tool. Large photography and neutral backdrops enable the experience of many different artforms and audience depictions to be harmonious.

de Young Museum
San Francisco
Exhibition Identity

1. Wild Poster Set
2. Museum Entrance
2. Muni Platform
3. Bus Stop

Paul McCartney Photographs 1963–64: Eyes of the Storm came to the de Young Museum with the request, from both the National Portrait Gallery and the McCartney Studio, for re-envisioned identity to be developed by our in-house team.

We were inspired by the cinematic appeal of this body of work. The appearance of motion in the landscape images, conjured a cinematic experience, elements of soft focus elude to depth, and drag recons time. An aspect of type in film is the tradition of how crediting is handled. The lexicon is iconic, with narrow letter forms and compartmentalized sections. Paired with motion blur or a landscape orientation, this heavily enforces the notion of film production.

California
Pit Bull Rescue
Apparel Graphics

Pit Bulls get a bad wrap. This Oakland based rescue and placement non-profit, helps these pups find new forever homes. To support their mission they generate money through donations and the sale of merchandise. The directive here was to keep the vibe light and fun. We chose a slobbery rock n’ roll inspired pup illustration paired with vintage tee-shirt, Cooper-esque type.

Sterile Mind
Lift the Mask
LP Packaging

Oakland band Sterile Mind’s music is discribed as ripping hardcore complimented by thoughtful songwriting, unorthodox arrangements and dripping with contempt lyrics. The design for their nine song EP Lift the Mask used the distopian language of oxidized paper, cut and paste omitions, and a dash of military issued gray landscapes. Printed and assembled by Pirates Press in Oakland, California.
